How to create a Google Postmaster Tool account for your domain

To gain advanced, analytical insights into your explicit email performance metrics on Gmail—such as underlying delivery errors, IP routing reputation status, and user-generated spam reports—you must configure a Google Postmaster Tools (GPT) account, verify your custom domain ownership via DNS, and grant our team data viewing access.

What you will need:

A functional, active Google Account
A custom domain name mapped to your ecosystem
Login access to your external domain registrar or DNS hosting dashboard

1. Create your account and verify domain ownership

Before pulling telemetry data, Google must verifiably index you as the authenticated administrator of the root domain. First, ensure you are fully logged into your target Google account, then navigate directly to the core Google Postmaster Tools dashboard interface.

Initiate domain registration

Inside the Postmaster Tools entry screen, locate the red or blue floating Add (+) action button stationed in the bottom-right quadrant of the grid panel and click it.

Input your naked domain string

In the pop-up modal box, accurately enter your naked custom domain name string (excluding prefixes like "www" or "https://", e.g., yourdomain.com), and click Next.

Option A: Verifying via a TXT DNS record (Recommended)

The standard verification path uses a cryptographic text verification token mapped to your DNS zone layer.

Copy the security verification string

The console will display a unique TXT record value line. Safely copy this entire string block to your clipboard.

Deploy inside your registrar account

Log directly into your domain registrar dashboard manager. Navigate to the Manage DNS records section and initialize a new row addition, setting the type selector dropdown strictly to TXT.

Map inputs and validate with Google

In the Host/Name column field, insert either @ or leave it blank based on your registrar's default formatting rules. In the target Text/Value input area, paste the verification string copied from Google. Click Add record / Save.

Return to your active Postmaster configuration panel page and click the Validate button to trigger Google's look-up engine and lock in authentication.

Option B: Verifying via a CNAME record (Fallback)

If your specific DNS manager drops strings or fails to propagate the TXT authentication token correctly, you can switch to a stable CNAME record path fallback option.

Inside the verification pop-up menu, select the alternative link selection labeled Adding a CNAME record. The workspace engine will immediately generate two unique pairing strings: a specific Host/Label value and a coordinating Destination/Target value.

Return to your domain host's DNS dashboard zone manager, create a new record entry row, and select the CNAME structural type framework. Format the inputs precisely as follows:

Name / Host Field: Paste the generated Label value. Important: Enter only the localized part that precedes your root domain name (e.g., if the generated output reads string._domainkey.yourdomain.com, strip the domain block and enter only string._domainkey).
Value / Content / Target Field: Paste the complete matching Destination string exactly as generated by Google.

Click Save to register the changes, return to the Postmaster console interface, and select the Validate button block.

2. Grant deliverability audit access to our team

To authorize our system deliverability specialists to actively review, interpret, and audit your domain telemetry logs, you must delegate viewing permissions within your console array.

Open your domain manager preferences

On the master Postmaster dashboard screen, locate your newly verified domain listing block row. Click the corresponding horizontal three-dots menu icon situated on that domain's row container line.

Access User Management options

From the contextual option selection window list that pops open, click directly on the choice labeled Manage Users.

Authorize our operational address

Locate and click the floating Plus (+) action icon positioned in the lower-right margin space. In the prompt field modal that appears, enter our dedicated data collection address exactly as follows:
