How to trigger automations when a course, module or lecture is completed
In this article, you will learn how to trigger specific automations (like sending congratulatory emails, adding tags, or unlocking next steps) when a student successfully completes a course, module, or lecture.
What you'll need:
- A SystemeScale account
- A course containing at least one module and one lecture
1. Using the "Course completed" trigger
This triggers actions when a student completes 100% of the entire course.
For automation rules:
- On your dashboard, go to Automations > Rules to create a new automation rule.
- Choose the Course completed trigger.
- Select the specific course from the dropdown menu. This automation will run when a student finishes that entire course.
For workflows:
- On your dashboard, go to Automations > Workflows to create a new workflow.
- Choose the Course completed trigger, then select the course that will launch the sequence of workflow actions.
2. Using the "Module completed" trigger
This allows you to trigger actions based on module-level progress.
For automation rules:
- Go to Automations > Rules and create a new rule.
- Choose the Module completed trigger. You have two scoping options:
- If you select only a course: The action will be triggered when any module within that selected course is completed.
- If you select a course AND a module: The action triggers only when that specific module of the selected course is completed.
For workflows:
- Go to Automations > Workflows to create a new workflow.
- Choose the Module completed trigger, then select the course to which you want to attach the workflow actions.
3. Using the "Lecture completed" trigger
This provides the most granular control, allowing actions based on individual lecture completion.
For automation rules:
- Go to Automations > Rules and create a new rule.
- Choose the Lecture completed trigger. You have three scoping options:
- If you select only a course: The action triggers when any lecture in that entire course is completed.
- If you select a course AND a module: The action triggers when any lecture in that specific module is completed.
- If you select a course, module, AND lecture: The action triggers only when that highly specific lecture is completed.
For workflows:
- Go to Automations > Workflows to create a new workflow.
- Choose the Lecture completed trigger, then select the course to which you want to attach the workflow actions.
