In this guide, you will learn how to add DNS records in IONOS to connect your root domain.

This allows you to use your custom domain, such as www.domain.com, for your sales funnels and blogs, helping you establish a professional brand presence.

What you will need:

  • A SystemeScale account
  • A domain name purchased from IONOS
⚠️
Add the domain in SystemeScale first
Please follow the first step of the How to connect your domain to SystemeScale article before proceeding with this guide.
🌐
Start with the domain connection guide
Add your root domain inside SystemeScale first, then return here to add the required IONOS DNS records.

Add your root domain in SystemeScale first

After adding the root domain to SystemeScale, you must access the DNS settings in your IONOS account.

πŸ“
Each domain has unique CNAME records
Each domain added to SystemeScale has unique CNAME records that must be added to your host’s DNS settings.
ℹ️
Example used in this guide
In this example, the domain www.sio-demo.com is being connected to SystemeScale. Your own CNAME records will be generated inside your SystemeScale account.

First, hover over your profile picture, click Settings, then go to Custom Domains and add your custom domain.

First CNAME

In IONOS, go to the DNS zone for your domain name, then click Add a record. Select the CNAME type.

Enter www in the Hostname field, then enter dsq5ytes5ap90.cloudfront.net. in the Points to field. Finally, click Save.

πŸ“
If the www CNAME already exists
If a CNAME record with the name www exists, edit the target to dsq5ytes5ap90.cloudfront.net.

Second CNAME

Go to the DNS records for your domain. Click Add a record and select CNAME as the type.

In the Hostname field, enter only the part of the text that appears before your domain name. In this example, use _be50f0c6ab135efbaccc95c5129852f6.

Then, enter _04afcedac82192a5587b6ea2c6045981.zfyfvmchrl.acm-validations.aws. in the Points to field. Finally, click Save.

⚠️
Use your own generated records
The CNAME values above are examples. Copy the exact records shown in your own SystemeScale account for the domain you are connecting.

Check your CNAME records

Once the two CNAMEs are correctly added to your host, you can check their status using DNS Checker.

To check your records, enter the full CNAME name, including your domain name, into the search bar.

You should see the same value you added next to a green checkmark. If not, the records have not been added correctly, and you need to check your DNS zone.

βœ…
Verify both CNAME records
Check both the first CNAME and the second validation CNAME. Both should resolve correctly before you expect the domain connection to work.

Add a redirect rule

Log in to IONOS and go to the Domains & SSL section. Select your domain, which in this example is sio-demo.com, then click Change the type of use.

On the next page, you will see a list of options. Click Redirect domain.

In the Redirection destination field, enter the URL you want to redirect to, for example www.sio-demo.com.

Check the box for Also configure for www subdomain if you want to include subdomains. Select HTTP Redirection (Recommended); this option changes the URL displayed in the address bar. Finally, click Save to confirm the redirection.

Important notes

⏳
DNS propagation can take time
It can take up to 24–48 hours for DNS records to propagate completely.
⚠️
Resolve DNS conflicts with IONOS support
Sometimes, your host may not be able to register a CNAME record because of a conflict with other existing DNS records. This usually happens when adding the first CNAME. If this occurs, contact your host support to determine whether those existing records are necessary or can be safely deleted.

Need to connect an IONOS subdomain instead?
Use the subdomain guide if you are connecting a subdomain instead of a root domain.
