How to upload a video to a course lecture
Video is the most common content type in online courses. SystemeScale gives you three ways to add video to any lecture — direct upload to SystemeScale hosting, linking from YouTube or Vimeo, or embedding from any video host that provides an embed code.
Step-by-step: adding a video to a lecture
1
Open the lecture editor
Assets → Courses → open your course → find the lecture → click Edit. The page editor opens.
2
Drag the Video element onto the page
In the elements panel on the left, find the Video element. Drag it onto the page canvas and drop it inside a column.
3
Click the Video element to open settings
The left panel shows three video source options.
4
Choose your video source and enter the details
- Direct link — paste a YouTube or Vimeo URL. The player appears automatically.
- Custom embed — paste an HTML embed code from any supported video host (Wistia, Loom, Bunny.net, etc.).
- Upload file — click Upload and select an MP4 from your computer. Video is hosted by SystemeScale at no extra charge. Recommended format: MP4, H.264, 1080p or lower.
5
Configure playback options
For uploaded files: set Autoplay (on/off) and Controls (show or hide the play/pause/volume bar). For uploaded videos you can also add a thumbnail image shown before the student clicks play.
6
Save the lecture
Click Save in the editor. Open the lecture in a private browser window to test playback before activating it for students.
Choosing the right video source
- Upload directly to SystemeScale — gives you full control, no third-party branding, and works with the playback controls. Best for premium paid courses where a professional experience matters. Storage is included in all plans.
- YouTube or Vimeo — easy to use and familiar players. Be aware that YouTube shows recommended videos at the end, which can distract students. Use unlisted (not private) YouTube videos so only people with the link can find them.
- Custom embed — use this for video hosts with advanced analytics (Wistia, Bunny.net, Vidyard) or when you need detailed per-viewer tracking.
ℹ️
Supported upload format
MP4 with H.264 video codec is the recommended format for the best compatibility. For file size, aim for 720p or 1080p at a reasonable bitrate. Very large files (above 2GB) may take several minutes to process after upload.
💡
Add a text summary below every video
Students with slow connections, hearing impairments, or who prefer reading will appreciate a written summary below each video. Drag a Text element beneath the video and include the key points from the lesson.
Adding downloadable resources alongside videos
Many instructors pair their videos with downloadable worksheets, slide decks, or reference guides. To add a downloadable file: drag a Button element below the video → set the button action to Download file → click Upload to attach the file. See: How to add downloadable files to a lecture.
