In this article, you will learn how to integrate your PayPal account with your SystemeScale account.

What you'll need

Step 1: Connect your PayPal account

To connect your PayPal account with SystemeScale, go to your profile picture and click Settings.

From the settings menu on the left, click Payment gateways and click Connect for the PayPal option.

1
Open Settings
Click your profile picture, then click Settings.
2
Open Payment gateways
From the settings menu on the left, click Payment gateways.
3
Connect PayPal
Click Connect for the PayPal option.

Log in and authorize PayPal

Click Connect. A new tab will open, prompting you to log in to PayPal. Enter your email address and password.

If you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled on your PayPal account, you will be asked to verify your identity by entering a security code sent to your phone or email.

Once logged in, PayPal will display a permission screen asking you to authorize SystemeScale to connect to your account. Click the Allow button to grant permission.

After you grant permission, PayPal will confirm that the connection is ready. Click Return to SystemeScale to go back to your SystemeScale account.

πŸ”
Two-factor authentication may be required
If 2FA is enabled on your PayPal account, complete the PayPal security-code step before authorizing the connection.

Confirm the PayPal Merchant ID

This process may take a few seconds. Once complete, you will see your PayPal Merchant ID.

Your PayPal account is now fully integrated with SystemeScale and ready to process payments.

When your PayPal Merchant ID appears in your SystemeScale account, the PayPal integration has been completed successfully.

Add required fields to order forms

To process payments through PayPal, you need to add the email, first name, and last name fields to all of your order forms.

If any of these fields are missing from an order form, you must add them.

⚠️
Email, first name, and last name are required
PayPal payments require the order form to collect the customer’s email address, first name, and last name. At minimum, the email field must be part of the order form to process payments through the payment gateway.

Step 2: Configure PayPal IPNs to receive notifications in SystemeScale

PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN) allow SystemeScale to receive automatic updates on the status of your payments.

You’ll need to configure the IPN settings in your PayPal account to receive these notifications.

πŸ””
What are Instant Payment Notifications?
IPNs help SystemeScale receive updates from PayPal when payment events happen, which helps keep transaction statuses updated.

Activate PayPal notifications

Sign in to your PayPal account, click on the profile icon, and then click Account settings to display your account settings in the panel on the left.

Scroll down and click Notifications, and then click Update in the Instant payment notification section.

Click Choose IPN settings.

1
Open PayPal Account settings
Sign in to PayPal, click the profile icon, then click Account settings.
2
Open Notifications
Scroll down and click Notifications.
3
Open IPN settings
Click Update in the Instant payment notification section, then click Choose IPN settings.

Enter the Notification URL

In the Notification URL field, enter:

https://www.systemescale.com/payment/webhook/listening-paypal

For the IPN Messages field, select Receive IPN messages (Enabled).

Click Save to save the changes.

After clicking Save, you will be redirected to a window that confirms that the payment notifications have been activated successfully.

βœ…
IPN should be enabled
Make sure Receive IPN messages (Enabled) is selected before saving. Otherwise, SystemeScale will not receive the PayPal notification updates.

PayPal restriction or verification errors

When your account is being verified, or when you have a restricted account due to PayPal verification, you may receive one of the following error messages:

  • PayPal keys are incorrect.
  • Can not set up integration with PayPal. PP returned error #10002: Account is restricted.

If this occurs, we recommend that you contact PayPal support to receive guidance on how to resolve the restriction on your account.

⚠️
Resolve PayPal restrictions with PayPal support
If PayPal reports that your account is restricted, the restriction must be handled from the PayPal side before the integration can work correctly.
